Tally Ho, Littlehempston's Community Pub - new logo

We've been open for two weeks !

Hello subscriber,

It's now just over two weeks since we re-opened the Tally Ho - firstly for members of Littlehempston Community Pub Limited (LCPL) on Thursday 27th March, and then for the general public the following day.  Those who hadn't been involved in the huge effort put in by so many volunteers in the ten days between purchase and opening were amazed at how clean and bright the pub looked. It was magical to arrive at the Tally, to find the windows lit up once again and walk into the pub full of laughter and good cheer. And it's been like that ever since. Local support from businesses and customers has been wonderful - everybody is delighted and relieved that the Tally is back in action.

The two weeks since opening have flown past - mainly because the Tally's been busier than anyone dared hope.  Being so busy, but only having Hollie and Chris employed full time, has meant that volunteers helping in the kitchen, waiting and behind the bar, have been really important to keeping the business afloat, and the food and drink flowing.  We've quickly found some part time paid staff to help out too, particularly in the kitchen, and Hollie and Chris are working at recruiting more paid staff.  In the meantime, offers of help are still welcome, so if you'd like to be put on the volunteer contact list, please get in touch (contact details at the end of this newsletter). There's also still lots of DIY stuff to do at the pub, so if waiting or washing up isn't your thing, drop by the Tally, preferably in the morning before opening, and Chris will find you a job. And if you know of anybody seeking paid work, please let Hollie and Chris know.

LCPL member Claire Stentiford has been working hard at spreading the word about the Tally on Facebook and Twitter (click on those links to see what's been going on).  Facebook and Twitter buttons have been added to the home page of our website www.tallyhoinn.co.uk too.  If you're in to one or both of those, then please like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter - and tell all your friends about us too !

We've had lots of good press coverage since we bought the Tally in mid March.  You can see (and hear) it on our website's Press Cuttings page.  And we understand that we're going to be on Radio Devon again early tomorrow morning (Monday 14th), and probably on Spotlight (BBC TV) later in the day.

The next big event at the Tally is our official re-opening by Dr Sarah Wollaston MP at 3.30pm on Saturday 26th April.  Plans for the day are still being developed, but please put the date in your diary and try to come along.  A really big crowd will show just how much support there is for our lovely re-opened pub.  We'll put more details of the day on the What's on page of our website, as soon as they're available.

If you can make it to the official re-opening then you may be interested in coming along earlier in the day to Bargain in the Barn which is taking place in the barn behind the Old Rectory next door to the Tally from 10.00am to 2.00pm.  If you're coming to both events, how about having lunch in the Tally too ?

Much work has been going on to get the Tally Ho correctly listed on websites that can be used to find pubs, and that carry users' reviews.  An initial problem is that the Tally has been wrongly listed in the Royal Mail's postcode database for many years, which means that the maps on find-a-pub websites show the Tally in the wrong place, and potential customers typing the postcode into their satnavs never find us.  We corrected the Royal Mail listing as soon as we bought the Tally, but it could take many months for that information to filter through to all the websites.

User reviews are a very important way of establishing and publicising the reputation of pubs like ours.  So if you've been to the Tally and had a good time there, why not visit some of the websites below and add a review ?  And if you didn't enjoy your visit to the Tally, please tell us why by replying to this e-mail or using our website's contact form.

Here are some websites with up to date listings for the Tally:
CAMRA's WhatPub

And here are some others where we've so far failed to correct important information about the Tally.  If you do add a review to any of these sites, please stress that the correct postcode for the Tally Ho is TQ9 6LY:
The Good Pub Guide (wrong postcode and opening hours)
Pubs Galore (postcode correction and picture submitted 2nd April)
UK Pub Finder (updated listing submitted 2nd April)
Beer in the Evening (postcode correction and picture submitted 7th April)

An entry for the Tally Ho was submitted to TripAdvisor on 5th April, but hasn't appeared yet...

We had our first games night in the re-opened Tally last Wednesday.  Ten enthusiastic games players enjoyed a delicious supper, and then got on with the serious business of game playing.  This time it was a new board game brought along by Mo and Mike Wright.  Games night was originally started by Tally customers a year or so before the pub closed as a way of drumming up midweek business.  Now it's back in the Tally on the second Wednesday of the month because we enjoy it - everyone's welcome !

Cheers,

Littlehempston Community Pub Ltd.
