Rally Round the Tally

Latest news

Hello subscriber,

This e-mail's going out to supporters of the Tally Ho Inn, Littlehempston.

Sorry it's been a while since we last sent you any news about the Tally, but your committee have been hard at work behind the scenes.  We're still hoping to be fully open in time for Mothers' Day on Sunday 30th March.  We had hoped to have exchanged contracts by now, but there have been a few hiccups in the legal bits and pieces going backwards and forwards between the solicitors, so that hasn't happened yet.  Our target date for completing the purchase has slipped a little too, to Monday 17th March.  If we do achieve that, then it'll be all hands to the pump to get the pub ready for opening about ten days later.

Lindy Collard-Baker and Jill Todd have been hard at work planning what to plant in the flower beds in the Tally's garden.  They want robust perennials for the spring and summer that only need cutting back in the autumn, and bulbs to plant for the spring.  Their aim is to have a country garden look.  Lindy and Jill have got some plants to donate, but they're asking you to think of plants in your garden that you can split up and donate to the Tally Ho.  You can bring them down to the garden (potted and labelled please) once it is cleared and they can be put in.  If you've got plants or ideas to contribute to the garden, just reply to this e-mail and it'll be passed on to Lindy and Jill.

Roy Collings has been in touch with South Hams District Council Libraries who are very enthusiastic about the idea of having a small library in the pub, which will include a place where you can pick up SHDC library books that you've ordered online, and return them when you've finished with them.

Roy's also been in touch with our MP Sarah Wollaston who's checking dates to see when she could do an official re-opening of the Tally Ho.  We're planning to wait a month or two after the pub's actually re-opened before we have the "official" re-opening.  That way we can make sure everything's running smoothly, and we should be able to get double the publicity.

Finally, but perhaps most importantly, we think we've found our management couple to run the Tally Ho.  They're Hollie Brockwell and Chris Webley who've impressed the committee with their energy and enthusiasm for our project.  They're relatively young, but come with good references and the right experience.  Here's hoping you'll be able to meet them soon !
