Community Land purchase campaign

Hello subscriber,

Here's something a bit different from our usual monthly Tally Ho e-mails, but it's very much at the heart of Littlehempston, and is another Community enterprise, so we thought you'd like to know about it. And apologies if you've heard about this already (through the Littlehempston website mailing list, or the Parish News) - you don't need to read any further!

Following the death of Lyndon Blackler in 2016, Higher Court Farm and associated land within the village of Littlehempston is to be sold at auction. The auction will be conducted by Rendells in 11 separate lots and is set to take place on March 15th. Click here for full details.

A group of villagers have come together with the aim of creating a fund to acquire some of this land. The primary target is picturesque Lot 7, the meadow and orchard at the centre of the village. If successful, the intention is to place the land into a Community Land Trust for the benefit of the village in perpetuity, with a focus on nature conservation and biodiversity. Lot 7 comes in two distinct parts; the lower meadow is flat, bordered by a stream and is located at the heart of the village. Despite its additional function as flood alleviation, these features lend themselves to the meadow becoming an informal village green/nature reserve. The rear of the plot is an old orchard. Here, the intention is to create a community orchard as a means of bringing the village together, and who knows, maybe having our own Wassail event in the not too distant future…!

To date, there has been a meeting held in the Church, which yielded a number of pledges for donations, however we are still short. With time running out, we are coming to you to ask if you might be willing to donate. If anyone wishes to do so, we would be extremely grateful. Cheques should be made payable to the ‘Village Community Space’, please write ‘Land Littlehempston’ on the back of the cheque together with your contact details, and send to: Land Littlehempston, 2 Church Cottages, Littlehempston, Totnes, TQ9 6LY.

BACS details are:
Account: Village Community Space
Sort Code: 30-98-69
Account No: 02271067

If your funds are not currently available, you can email pledges with the amount you intend donate, to landpledge@littlehempston.com (all pledges will remain confidential). To be kept up to date with this campaign and join in the discussion, please subscribe to our mailing list land@littlehempston.com. Just send an e-mail to that list address to start the subscription process, or click here and subscribe online.

As the village that converted its church into a unique community space and created the very first community pub in South Devon, let's place Lot 7 under community ownership, as a haven for wildlife and a place to bring the village together, for the benefit of all.

Finally, if you've got any questions, or would just like to know a bit more about this campaign, then you're welcome to use Littlehempston website's contact form.

Cheers,

Littlehempston Community Pub Ltd.
