Watch steam engine 5029 Nunney Castle pass the Tally Ho today, hauling The Anniversary Limited. On this very day, in 1904, ‘City of Truro’ entered the history books with its epic 102mph dash down Wellington Bank with the up Ocean Mails special. This landmark was commemorated 60 years later in 1964 by British Railways Western Region when they sponsored, along with the ‘Railway World’, a Paddington – Westbury – Plymouth – Bristol – Paddington ‘High Speed Special’, utilising several ‘Castle’ class engines. Both of these runs are being celebrated today, appropriately with one of the remaining ‘Castles’ that have made it into the preservation era.
We estimate that Nunney Castle will be passing the Tally Ho southwards (towards Totnes and Plymouth) at about 12.55pm and returning at about 5.05pm.
